Kaduna APC suspends Senator Shehu Sani

Outspoken Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial zone, has been suspected from party politics by the APC in Kaduna state. In a letter to the Senator dated Dec. 27th, the party said the suspension is 11 months and listed his offenses to include uttering statements that allegedly
“violate the rules of engagement of the party, factionalizing the party, and engaging in anti-party activities by criticizing the policies of Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Hardly a week passes by that his group will not be on air criticizing and challenging the enduring legacies of ElRufai, that his statement on national issues is not in conformity with that of the state government and government of Kaduna State,” the statement read.
So, it's now a crime to criticize a governor? Are we not in a democracy? The party also banned Sen. Sani from engaging in party activities in the state through out the 11 months suspension...

Similarly, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, has shed more light on the suicide bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State in which 26 people were killed while 85 others were injured on Monday morning at a news briefing.
It should be recalled that 14 female suicide bombers attempted to attack Maiduguri, Borno state capital on Sunday but were repelled by gallant troops. He revealed that tenage female suicide bombers tried to force themselves into Maiduguri with the intent carrying out massive and coordinated suicide attacks using 4 different routes into the city; Asuwari, Mulai Kura, Baderi village Nine Damboa Road and Jameri village.

They were however intercepted by the troops. Unfortunately 3 of them detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at various places Monday morning killing 26 Persons and injuring 85 others. While the other detonated her bomb at Baderi general area. However, one of them, Fatima Babagapchia, was apprehended during the operation.

The GOC praised the gallantry of the troops for being vigilant at all time. He commended the troops courage by eliminating the suicide bombers and arresting some of them, which he believes have averted what would have been a major disaster if they had gain entry into the town. Speaking to newsmen during an interview, the suspected suicide bomber Fatima said she lives with her parents in Bullunkutu Abuja, in Maiduguri before abducted with 6 other females in Monguno town.

She admitted that being a divorced mother of a baby girl, she was never involves in terror activities since her abduction last year. Sri Lankan president wants Enrique Iglesias' show promoters beaten for promoting immorality

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena wants a public beating of local concert promoters after fans threw their bras on stage during an Enrique Iglesias show.
The performance in question took place in Sri Lanka’s commercial capital of Colombo on December 20.
The hordes of fans who paid what was locally high costs for tickets were set to enjoy the show to the fullest, with a number of women throwing bras onto the stage, and even a few rushing to try and kiss the singer.
President Sirisena said that the organizers of the event should be, “beaten with poisonous stingray tails” for creating such an environment. He also said there is no need to beat the, “uncivilized women who removed their brassieres,” implying that they were just victims of their surroundings.

In response to the harsh comments, the company behind the show stated that security “failed alarmingly,” along with apologizing for people who paid for better seats being pushed out of the way by rushing fans. While they stopped short of offering refunds, it’s clear that the folks at Live Events fear the President’s wish might just be fulfilled.
President Sirisena stated that, “these indecent concerts should never receive authorization again in Sri Lanka.”

China passes its first law against domestic violence

In a landmark decision, China’s Parliament on Monday adopted the country’s first law against domestic violence, bringing traditionally silent abuse victims, including couples who are in live-in relationship, under legal protection. The new law, passed by the Chinese national legislature, prohibits any form of domestic violence, including psychological abuse.
“The country prohibits any form of domestic violence,” reads the new law, which formally defines domestic violence and streamlines the process for obtaining restraining orders – measures long advocated by anti-domestic abuse groups, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The legislation was approved at the end of a week-long bimonthly session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.
According to the new bill, victims and those in immediate danger can file for a personal protection order that the court must grant or deny within 72 hours. In urgent cases, decisions must be made within 24 hours. Once the order is granted, courts may prohibit the abuser from harassing, stalking or contacting the applicant and his or her close relatives, order the abuser to move out of the home, or adopt various other measures to protect the applicant.

If the abuser violate the protection order, they may be fined up to 1,000 yuan, detained for up to 15 days or face criminal charges in serious offences.

Domestic violence is defined as physical, psychological and other harm inflicted by family members with beatings, restraint or forcible limits on physical liberty, recurring invectives and verbal threats listed as examples. It enables individuals and organisations to prevent domestic violence, and allows legal guardians and close relatives of abuse victims, in addition to the victims themselves, to report abuse.

Police will have to step in immediately when such a report is filed.

The new law also covers cohabitation, meaning those who are not related but live together are also included.According to Communist Party-run All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF), nearly 25 per cent of Chinese women have suffered domestic violence in their marriage.

More than 40,000 complaints of domestic violence are lodged with the ACWF each year.

Victims resorting to the ACWF for help are mainly women, children and the elderly, and 88.3 per cent of cases received in 2014 involved abuse by husbands of their wives.China previously did not have a special law covering violence in the family.References to the matter were only made in other laws and regulations such as the Marriage Law, the Law on the Protection of Minors and the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women.
