Its not about the kissing. People felt the song they felt togetherness, they were swept away by our delivery, by our actions, by how we expressed and delivered the song. it was so original that's why people were thinking there was something going on. For real there's nothing between us, we just good friends and I respect her for that, we cool like that and she's a nice person to work with."

United Nations: UN to campaign against xenophobia, racism in dealing with refugees

"Xenophobic and racist responses to refugees and migrants seem to be reaching new levels of stridency, frequency and public acceptance."

The United Nations on Monday proposed that its member countries create and agree upon a system to share responsibility more fairly for the hundreds of millions of refugees and migrants around the world.
The global compact would be accompanied by a U.N.-led campaign to combat the xenophobia and racism that have tainted discussions of the refugees and migrants, U.N. officials said at a briefing to release a report on the global migration.
The U.N. estimates there are 20 million refugees worldwide and another 40 million people displaced inside their own countries. Of the refugees, 86 percent live in developing countries, often near the countries they came from, it says.
Added to those figures are 244 million migrants who live and work in countries where they were not born, it says.
The campaign would attempt to counter an increasingly negative attitude and tone in debates over how to deal with the crisis, the U.N. said.
"I am concerned at the increasing trend of member states to erect fences and walls," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in the report.
"Xenophobic and racist responses to refugees and migrants seem to be reaching new levels of stridency, frequency and public acceptance."
The proposals come ahead of a summit meeting planned at the U.N. in September to address the global refugee crisis.
The U.N.-led campaign will promote such steps as more direct, personal contact between refugees, migrants and people in their host countries, said Karen AbuZayd, U.N. special adviser on the summit.
Also, nations will be called upon to develop plans for including refugees and migrants in education, language and skills training and employment opportunities.
The global compact would require nations to share responsibility in a variety of ways so that a few nations do not shoulder much of the burden while others do far less, the U.N. said.
It might include resettlement policies, financing arrangements, aid to host countries and technical assistance, AbuZayd said.
"States will share responsibility for refugees more fairly. Host countries will receive immediate support for their development needs. International migration will be governed better," she said.
Amnesty International called the plan a potential "game changer", but said its success depends upon nations agreeing on a permanent system for sharing responsibility.
"World leaders cannot go on lurching from crisis to crisis, haggling over numbers and fiddling while parts of the world burn," Amnesty said.
Citing "refugees in shaky boats, trapped at border fences or crammed into overcrowded camps where hopes and dreams wither", it said: "Too often, these scenes of despair are borne not just from war and persecution but also of bad, callous policies."
Facilitating safe migration is included among the Sustainable Development Goals, a blueprint of plans for nations to fight poverty, promote equality and slow climate change by 2030. U.N. member nations signed the goals last fall.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has explained why President Muhammadu Buhari attends foreign events by himself instead of sending a representative.

According to Mohammed, Buhari’s persona inspires confidence in world leaders, something a representative might not be able to achieve.
The minister made the disclosure on May 9, 2016, during a live radio and television programme hosted in Kaduna by Liberty Radio and Television, Daily Trust reports.

“Many world leaders are saying now that Nigeria has a leader with integrity, they have the confidence to discuss with us even on the issue of the looted funds, so sending a representative cannot achieve that much,” he said.
Buhari has been criticized for his frequent trips abroad with many urging him to remain in Nigeria and solve the country’s problems.

Ambode:Governor’s wife condemns domestic violence

Mrs Ambode’s remarks come after the arrest of Lekan Shonde, a man who allegedly beat his wife to death in the Egbeda area of the state.
First Lady of Lagos State - Bolanle Ambode
First Lady of Lagos State - Bolanle Ambode

The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode has condemned the trend of domestic violence which has continued to plague the state and the country.

Mrs Ambode’s remarks come after the arrest of Lekan Shonde, a man who allegedly beat his wife to death in the Egbeda area of the state.
The First Lady made her comments via a statement released by her Chief Public Affairs Officer, Folashade Kadiri on May 9, 2016.
Read the statement below:
Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has condemned in the strongest possible terms, the vexed issue of domestic violence, which has continued to rear its ugly head in the state and across the country.
She made the denunciation in Alausa, Ikeja, against the backdrop of one Mr. Lekan Shonde, who allegedly beat his wife to death at the Egbeda suburb of the state.
Mrs Ambode lamented that domestic violence in the form of assault on wife, child-beating and other forms of uncivilized behavior against women and children, seemed to have got fresh fancy from some men, who are still living in the primitive times.
She described as totally unacceptable, a situation where a man would callously turn his wife to a punching bag on the flimsy excuse that the helpless woman had either insulted him or refused to carry out his orders.
In her words: “How do you explain a situation where the man you married and one who claims to love you, would descend so heavily on you at the slightest provocation. If he is not complaining about delayed dinner, it is another flimsy excuse that is not tenable anywhere. They do it every now and then even to the extent of killing the helpless woman. For how long will this go on?”
The visibly distraught wife of the governor, advised any woman who found herself in an abusive relationship to retrace her steps when it was still possible, so that she could live to tell her own story.
She rejected the common and well-worn excuse of societal stigmatization of women who abandoned unpleasant marriages, retorting that when the woman dies in such a cruel marriage, what then does the society say?
According to her, “Many victims of domestic violence become victims of their own psychological realities. The world of these women is lonely, isolated and filled with fear, with no emotional outlet whatsoever. Sadly, victims wait until it is too late”.
She advised that, we should cease to treat domestic violence as a case of “family affair” and such do not become involved. The fact that our society is patriarchal and values sanctioned by culture is not enough reason for this epidemic called Domestic Violence.
Speaking further, she said domestic abuse should be moved from being viewed as a social problem to being viewed as a criminal justice issue.
Mrs Ambode commiserated with all victims of domestic violence, including families of those that died, urging any woman going through such troubled marriages to approach the state’s Office of the Public Defender, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Youth & Social Development or the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for legal assistance at no cost.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has urged residents of the state to poison the cattle of Fulani herdsmen who eat on their farms.

Fayose also said that there will be no grazing area for Fulani herdsmen in the state.
The governor made the comment on Monday, May 9, 2016, during his monthly media chat, The Nation reports.
“What I said was that we will now be more proactive, if you bring your cow to come and eat up my farmland, I will put Gammalin 20 inside the water they will drink from. That is what I will do to those destroying our communities and raping our wives,” he said.
“I heard that 83 cows have been killed since I made the statement. If you come to Afao and eat up my palm tree, we have set traps for grass cutters and rodents and the trap will catch them.
“There is no land for grazing in Ekiti State. Power to assign land belongs to the governor. Tell them that there is no land for grazing here because it is my right to sign the C of O (Certificate of Occupancy)," he added.
Fayose also said that he’s qualified to be Nigeria’s Vice President.

Buhari: ‘President’s ideas are irrelevant to this world,’ Pat Utomi says

Utomi is said to have made the remark at a breakfast meeting organised by the Victory Chapel of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in the Magodo area of Lagos state.

Renowned economist, Pat Utomi has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is ruling Nigeria with a “medieval mindset”.

Utomi is said to have made the remark at a breakfast meeting organised by the Victory Chapel of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in the Magodo area of Lagos state, according to The Sun.

“The problem with Buhari’s administration is his medieval mindset. He excludes rather than includes. So, he does not get the best idea,” he said.
“He is insular. I don’t push him in this conversation but I am sure that if I put my friend, the vice president under pressure, he will admit what I am saying. Because of their medieval mindset, they have created a country that is more divided than they met it. And that is a problem for leadership that is marching towards progress.”
“Everything is based on context. Take a look at the mismanagement of this fuel thing; the whole idea is nonsensical. It doesn’t have to go on like this; you are punishing Nigerian people unnecessarily.
“The sufferings that Nigerians have endured in the last couple of weeks over this petrol crisis have reduced productivity. If you throw it open to people across the world to bring petrol to Nigeria and sell at any price, you will discover that within a year, the price of petrol will be lower than the government’s fixed price today.
“You (Buhari) set up a committee called transition committee. It suggested that you deregulate the whole thing about crude oil, but no, you won’t. Your ideas go back 30 years and they are irrelevant to this world. Open up your mind and listen to people and you can make progress. To lead is to serve.
“To lead, you must be knowledgeable. People don’t follow somebody who doesn’t know where he is going. Otherwise, you fall into a ditch," he added.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose had earlier also said that Buhari lacks the ideas necessary to rule Nigeria.

Sule Lamido: ‘I can be Nigeria’s president,’ Ex-governor says

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido also spoke on the need to restructure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido has said that he is willing to serve as Nigeria’s president.

Lamido also spoke on the need to restructure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made the comments during a recent interview with The Nation. Excerpts below:
What are you doing to effect reconciliation in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)?
You don’t know what we are doing and how hard we are working within the party, who we are reaching out, who we are talking to and people we are trying to reconcile. You don’t need to see it on the face book or on the pages of newspapers before you can understand that we are doing it. What we want you to know is the result, which you will know when the time comes.
Many times, you know we do a number of things quietly. When you are talking about reconciliation, people have been offended. So, you need to go there, plead and beg and because all of us, including you people, know that the current national mud is not what we are expecting.
If the APC woos you, will you defect?
Stop the APC from dreaming. They are free to dream. I have been saying so. But, what I am saying is that the APC is a formation of small-small parties. Small party CPC, small party ACN and small party ANPP. Rather than joining me, I’m joining them? No. Since they said we are a party of evils, everything evil is the PDP, why can’t they as saints come and clean us? Let them come to the PDP and purify us.
If you are given a presidential ticket, will you accept it?
You see, you are not given a ticket. You are you earn a ticket. You work to earn it.
If you are offered the ticket, what will be your reaction?
If I am offered a ticket in the PDP in 2019, I will thank God Almighty, and thank those who see in me the element that, yes, I can serve as the President of Nigeria. So, I will offer to serve.

Kaduna chairman reveals why he stepped down for former minister

Kaduna State Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Abubakar Gaiya Haruna, said he stepped down from contesting in the congress in other to pave way for the former minister of state for aviation, Hon Felix Hassan Hyat to emerge.

Gaiya said his decision not to contest as the Chairman of the PDP in Kaduna was for the interest of the party.

According to Gaiya, when people though politicians from the Southern part of Kaduna State cannot find a common ground on issues, added that his stepping down for the former minister has proved many people wrong.
"Look we have learned a lot from former President Goodluck Jonathan when it comes to issues like this," Gaiya told Pulse in an exclusive interview.
Gaiya, who is presently at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), the venue of the Kaduna State PDP congresses, said he is ready to support former Minister of State for Aviation, Mr Felix Hassan Hyat to succeed.
"They zoned the PDP chairmanship office to Southern Kaduna and a lot of us came out to contest. People wanted to see if we can speak with one voice. We have spoken with one voice and our decision is for the interest of the party. Anyone that did not stepped down as advised will spend his money trying to mobilised delegates," Gaiya added.
The Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Gaiya, said he will offer his support to the incoming Chairman to unite the party members for a good outing in 2019.

Africa's ruling football body, CAF, on Monday morning May 9th fined the Nigerian Football Federation $5,000 for allowing its stadium to be overcrowded during their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Kaduna in March.

The Kaduna State government had thrown open the doors of the venue for free to allow fans to watch the crucial AFCON qualifier which ended 1-1

More than 40,000 spectators entered into the 15,000 capacity stadium in Kaduna, and sat anywhere they could find space, from the floors, to the score board and flood lights and now CAF has reacted with this suspension saying such action puts the players and officials lives at risk.
