
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has condemned the recent murder of a woman at Wambai Market in Kano, assuring that justice will be served in the case.
The victim, Bridget Agbaheme was beheaded by an angry mob on Thursday, June 2, in Kano over alleged “blasphemy’ against Prophet Mohammed.
Ganduje,
who described the incident as barbaric, said that security operatives
will bring all those involved in the murder to book.
The
Governor gave the assurance while addressing newsmen after a meeting
with Islamic scholars, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), leaders
of different ethnic groups in the state and the murdered woman's husband
at the Government House on Friday, June 3.
He condoled with the husband of the murdered 74-year-old woman and her family.
“The
Council of Ulamas and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership
have also been urged to publicly condemn the barbaric act in the
media,” he said.
The governor also urged the
religious leaders to intensify efforts in enlightening the general
public on the dangers of taking laws into their hands.
Ganjude also promised that the state government will take care of the victim's burial arrangements.
In his reaction, the state CAN chairman, Bishop Ransome Bello, said the Christian body is satisfied with the resolutions taken at the meeting.
He also commended the governor for his wisdom and promised to convey the message to his people within and outside Kano State.
Also reacting to the incident, Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdalla, who spoke on behalf of the council of Ulamas, condemned the act which he described also as unIslamic and barbaric.
The murder Agbaheme has however sparked outrage on microblogging site, Twitter, with many, including former Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, demanding #JusticeforBridget from the Police force, Kano State Government, Federal government, and the National Assembly.
